Make a Movie Trailer with iMovie

Just for fun, consider making a movie from snippets of videos you have captured on your iPhone. You might remember that the iMovie app is included on your Apple devices - both mobile and computer.

Telling a story with video clips can be daunting. Or not! You will impress your family and friends when you show them your movie trailer. iMovie has many recipes to guide you through this production. Select any of the trailer options to see a preview, see the cast member suggestions and hear the music soundtrack.  The finished product will be under 90 seconds long! Open one with the Create button for a detailed view of the Outline, Storyboard and Shot List. Edit the Outline text fields then see those changed reflected in the Storyboard. The Shot List shows how many Action, Group Medium, Wide and Two Shot clips needed and their length.

Look at your Photos > Videos to see if you have content already recorded. Make a cup of tea and get comfortable. Play with the options presented. Discover and make edits. Then consider shooting new video and trailer to share with friends.

2020 Zoom Adventure Dates

How did November 2020 sneak up on us? Yikes! is not enough of a remark for the last nine months of 2020.

Like so much of our lives, Alpine Sandbox has been on hiatus. But the Library staff has reached out to give us a Zoom option! Yes, the drop-in iPhone/iPad/Mac support will be offered from 10 am to noon on November 14th and December 5th.

There will be lots to catch up on. Like, what have you been doing with your iPhone and iPads? In September Apple released iOS 14 for iPhone and iPad OS 14 for iPad. Have you updated? What do you think? There are some fun features to explore with these releases. For hints check out the …

I hope you have time to connect during our Zoom adventures. You do not have to create a Zoom account to join our meeting just use the URL and you will be prompted to download the app (on your computer, iPad or iPhone). If you are an experienced Zoomer, then use the same account and app.

Watch for new email a few days before our online meeting with details and the URL for our get-together. Alpine County Library staff will create our Zoom meetings with login credentials so our meeting is … just us, no outsiders. Also, our meetings will not be recorded for offline viewing.

By using Zoom we can share the screen of our iPhone or iPad - to remote participants - as if we are in the same room. This is amazing technology. In addition to sharing our screens, Zoom includes text chat as well as video and audio conferencing.

Sandbox open Oct 19th and Nov 16th

Yes it is late in the year but Angie has given us dates to get together, Saturdays, 9 to 11 am on October 19th and November 16th - weather permitting.

Getting It Together

Have you seen the news about the latest iOS operating systems, iOS 13 for iPhone and iPad OS 13?

Maybe you have already updated. Or you might be wondering what is all the fuss. Let's get together and review how to backup your phone or pad and how to update your iOS. (Best done at home overnight - be sure to answer all the prompts before going off to dreamland.)

There a subtle changes and then there are power editing features added to the Photos app.

Now is a good time to update your free Apple User Guide in Books.
iPhone User Guide for iOS 13
iPad User Guide for iPad OS 13

Looking for the user guides I stumbled upon other interesting free books about Apple software.
Pages for iPhone - Pages for iPad - Pages for Mac - word processing
Keynote for iPhone - Keynote for iPad - Keynote for Mac - presentations
Numbers for iPhone - Numbers for iPad - Numbers for Mac - spreadsheets

Did you update to iOS 13 and are you having problems? Call Apple Support - AppleCare phone 800/275-2273 8am -8pm central time. Often there is a text chat option or a tech person calls back in a short time or at a scheduled time. You can view the Apple Support site online.

Let's Get Together - Sept. 8th 9-11 am

Greetings Alpiners!

Let’s get together on Saturday, September 8th from 9 to 11 am. Well, if you are in town...

Apple always springs new toys and operating systems in the fall. That might mean you’ll be looking at something new. But don’t rush into a purchase, Apple devices last along time.

Last month Sharon mentioned creating a photo book. Do you have experience in creating a book? Come with your story and an example if you have it. Ellen asked for help fighting the demons of email and restoring purchased books in iBooks. But there were more questions left on the table (as always). All things photos are my passion. This is a drop-in activity, stay as long as your schedule permits.

Of course, come with questions and discoveries to share!

Do you have the free iBook version of Apple's User Guide for iPhone or iPad? You'll want to search the iBooks Store for "user guide" and download the version matched to your device by operating system. The books will cover recent devices.  Why do you want to download the book? Because you can use it when you do not have a cellular connection. You can also find online versions of the manuals at Apple's Support Site

Summer is almost over!

Summer is almost over and it is time for a get-together and get caught up on what's happening in your corner of Alpine County. Or in my case, what is happening under the shade tree ...

Saturday, August 4th, 9 to 11 am. Let's meet in the downstairs meeting room. Bring your questions, discoveries and devices.

Photo Walk - Friday! iPhone & Android

Note the different day! This month we meet on Friday February 2nd from 2 to 4 pm. Meet downstairs at 2 to review camera techniques and settings. Let's go outside for a few shots and then go upstairs to the Music Jam at 3 pm to practice taking pictures of people. (Hint, window backlight challenges our cameras!) At 3:30 we go back downstairs to look at our pictures and open them up in the free Snapseed app from Google to begin editing on iPhone.

This Photo Walk is open to iPhone and Android smartphone users. (Although I do not know anything about Android devices, camera functions and techniques should transfer. The Snapseed app is available for Android devices.)
